The Honourable Judy Darcy

Minister, Mental Health and Addictions
MLA, New Westminster
Honorary Chair, Advancing Women in STEAM

Judy Darcy has served as MLA for New Westminster since 2013. In 2017 Judy was appointed by Premier Horgan to serve as BC’s first Minister for Mental Health and Addictions. As MLA, she passionately advocates for issues facing her constituents – including affordable housing, funding for public education and child care.

In the 90s, Judy served as National President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). For many years she was the only woman to lead a national union in Canada.

Judy went on to lead the Hospital Employees Union and reached a historic settlement for healthcare workers – predominantly marginalized women – after the Supreme Court found that Bill 29 violated Charter-protected rights to collective bargaining.

Judy has a daunting mandate as the Minister for Mental Health and Addictions – to improve access to quality mental health and addictions services across the Province, while also developing an immediate response to the opioid public health emergency.  She is proud of the work her Ministry is doing every day for British Columbians, and deeply appreciates their dedication to this issue.
