Councillor, City of New Westminster
Patrick is a professional geoscientist who works in environmental protection and contaminated sites. He has been a volunteer, a community builder, a blogger, and a leader of conversations in New Westminster.
Patrick is the Chair of the Access Ability Advisory Committee and ACTBiPed, and serves on the Youth Advisory Committee and Seniors Advisory Committee. He also works on the Mayor’s Task force on transportation and the Canada Games Pool Task Force. He previously served on the boards of the New Westminster Environmental Partners, the Royal City Curling Club, and is the past president of the Environmental Managers Association of BC. He is currently the UBCM representative on the Board of the Society of Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals of BC, is a Director of the Lower Mainland Local Government Association, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Energy Association and on the Utilities Committee for Metro Vancouver.
He has volunteered in various roles at community events, from Jane’s Walks to PechaKucha nights, New West Pride, and the Royal City Farmer’s Market. He has given talks on sustainability and community engagement for diverse audiences, such as the City of New Westminster’s Envision 2032 Sustainability Fair and the 2014 Sustainable Spaces Forum presented by the Rivershead Society of BC. He has also worked towards increasing civic engagement in New West through social media and his blog, where he tries to make local government more understandable to the general community.
Patrick has been recognized for his community-building efforts, both as a volunteer and as a communicator. He was among the local business and community leaders recognized in the 2012 NextUP awards, and in 2013 he was honoured to be awarded Citizen of the Year at the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce Platinum Awards.
Patrick lives in the Brow of the Hill with his partner Antigone, and when not working around a committee table or volunteering, he can be found riding a bicycle or throwing curling rocks.
